Part-time/Casual Library Clerk

Job Brief

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Library Clerk to help manage the day to day running of the public library.

The ideal candidate has a passion for books and community engagement, strong communication skills, and the ability to use library databases and systems.

Ultimately, the Library Clerk’s role is to help ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the library, providing excellent customer service to library patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Register new patrons and issue library cards
  • Assist patrons in locating and checking out materials
  • Handle the check-in and check-out process for library materials
  • Sort and shelve books and other library materials
  • Manage inter-library loans
  • Answer patron queries in person or via phone or email
  • Assist with library events and programs
  • Comply with library policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library operations and procedures
  • Familiarity with library databases and systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Work Environment:  Public library setting. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Reporting Structure: Reports to the Library Manager or Assistant Library Manager.
  • Wages: Based on education and experience
  • Pay Range: $15.00-$18.00/hour
  • Employment Type: Part-time/casual
